Sumanth is aiming for the stars

When you think of Sumanth, you just can't help thinking about ANR. And that probably has been Sumanth's greatest hindrance in carving a niche for himself in Tollywood.
Well, an acting lineage doesn't always work to your advantage, and we have seen that both in Bollywood as well as our very own Tollywood. Sumanth, for one, has been in the shadow of ANR and Nagarjuna, with people making the unfair, yet inevitable comparisons.
The actor, however, showed a lot of potential with Satyam , and it seemed he had really arrived in Tollywood. But ever since, his movies fizzled out at the BO and he's been struggling to make it to the Tollywood star-club. This Sankaranti, Sumanth will surely be hoping for divine assistance as his home-production, Pourudu gets ready for release.
Excerpts from an interview:
Pourudu seems to be very important for you. The title suggests a message-oriented film?

Well, it's my home production. So, I definitely have to be concerned about this. Moreover, ever since the launch of the project, I have had immense confidence in the film. Personally, I haven't had good subjects to work on. This project allows me to do good work too. No, the film is not for the purpose of giving messages. Here, an IAS topper, who wants to be a responsible citizen, will face some unsavoury situations. We decided on this title after deliberation on many others and I'm sure people will appreciate it.
Tell us about your leading lady, Kaajal.

Kaajal is a very good actress. In fact, she was involved with our project even before she signed for Chandamama . Incidentally, Chandamama got released recently and turned out to be a hit. She plays a bubbly and cheerful character in this film. Her role is vital to the film, and she isn't just a glam doll.
Any chances of costarring Nag?

No. He is my mentor and one of the main reasons for whatever acting I have done so far. He has been more like a brother than an uncle to me. But costarring with him is not on the cards in the recent future.
Grapevine has it that you're seeing Kamalinee Mukherjee.

(Laughs it off) No, there's nothing there. I guess it just shows people consider me a popular figure, with rumours about me around! I take things like this in my stride, and my family is very understanding as well.
What is your comment on remaking old hit movies?

Actually it depends on perception. This is because the time frame of the yesteryear and the present films would differ a lot. It also requires a lot of seriousness and care to adapt films suitably to the times. Then only, can we reach the desired goal.
